Éveha International

The third campaign of the Franco-Nepalese Archaeological Mission to Mustang is currently underway in Kathmandu. The aim of this campaign is to continue studying the ceramics collected during last year’s surveys at the Phalyak site in Lower Mustang. A three-day training course on ceramic documentation is also being given this year to archaeologists from the Department of Archaeology.

MAFNAM is co-financed by the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (France Diplomatie – MEAE) and is co-directed by Samara Broglia de Moura (Éveha International), Marion Poux (ArScAn-UMR 7041, EPHE), and the Department of Archaeology of Nepal. The Central Asia team of the ArScAn laboratory (UMR 7041) provides scientific support.

Once again this year, we are delighted to be part of the Farasan Islands archaeological mission, a project led by Solène Marion de Procé (Archaïos and Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Mohammed Ali al-Malki (Heritage Commission, Ministry of Culture).

In addition to continuing to explore the site of al-Quṣār, the project now extends to other sites in the archipelago, including a major necropolis on which our colleague Chloé Girardi is working.

Éveha International is partnering with the Guernsey Museum to carry out an archaeological survey in the vicinity of the Fouaillages megalithic monument, in the Guernsey commune of L’Ancresse. The project is led by Gaël Barracand (Éveha, UMR 6566 – CReAAH, CNRS, Université de Rennes 1) and pH.D. Philip de Jersey (States Archaeologist, Culture and Heritage).

Since early May, our colleague Chloé Girardi has been part of the Dadan archaeological project’s spring mission to study several skeletons discovered in 2023.

The site of Dadan, located in the oasis of Al’Ula (Saudi Arabia), is excavated by a Franco-Saudi team led by Jérôme Rohmer (CNRS, UMR 8167, Orient Méditerranée) and Abdulrahman Alsuhaibani (King Saud University, Royal Commission for Al Ula).

This year, our colleague Sammy Ben Makhad is working on the archaeological mission at Dougga (Thugga, Tunisia), a site inscribed on the World Heritage List. This Franco-Tunisian programme (CNRS-ENS and INP) is under the direction of Véronique Brouquier- Reddé (CNRS-ENS-PSL – AOROC) and Samir Aounallah (Institut National du Patrimoine de Tunisie), with the support of the Institut français de Tunisie.

After four weeks of field and office research, the 2024 excavation campaign of the Mission Archéologique Française de Bactriane Protohistorique (MAFBAP), in the Sukhan Darya region of hashtag#Uzbekistan, is nearing completion. This mission is led by Shapulat Shajdullaev (University of Termez) and Johanna Lhuillier (CNRS, UMR 5133 Archéorient).

Éveha International is associated with the archaeological mission of Bouto Tell el Fara’in in Egypt. This project is directed by Loïc Mazou (Éveha, UMR 7041 ArScAn and UR 15071 HeRMA) and P. Ballet (Professor emeritus University Paris Nanterre – UMR 7041 ArScAn).
