The archaeological mission of survey led in February 2022 has allowed to uncover seven new necropolises owning exactly the same architectural features as the tombs excavated at the Jarama necropolis. These are circular tombs, built in pairs (rarely in threes) of dry stone, each with a central chamber that appears to be corbelled. The highest of these tombs can reach heights of over two meters. In some cases, small rows of hearths have been unearthed next to the tombs, but their contemporaneity cannot be confirmed at this stage.
These are located all over the Ja’alan, alongside the villages of Ras al Jinz, Khor Jarama (necropolis 2), Jalan Bani Bu Ali, Bu Feshka, Iref, Neked and Wadi el Masawi.
The next few years of the mission will therefore be devoted to the excavation of these funerary complexes, in order to gain a better understanding of the populations behind these funerary traditions.
