A few mountains overlook the area (Jabal Salakh and Jabal Mudhmar), but the site itself is located in the plain.

Research history
The area was completely unexplored until the first prospections were carried out in 2007 by the French Archaeological Mission in Central Oman (formerly the French aArchaeological Mission of Adam), now led by Guillaume Gernez (since 2011).

Mudhmar East, the site studied during this campaign, was discovered in 2009. It is made up of two main buildings and a few ancillary developments. It is located at the bottom of Jabal Mudhmar, close to one of the main Omani valleys and at the strategic crossroad of several trade routes.

In 2016, an exceptional collection of bronze weapons dating from the Iron Age II (900-600 B.C.) was discovered. These remains, non-functional, were found scattered on the ground in one of the buildings probably used for worshiping. They included in particular two complete quivers and metal weapons among which five bows. These weapons and buildings, unequaled in the region, give this site an exceptional character and justifie the continuation of excavations and investigations there.

Partners
Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne
Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Oman
CNRS – UMR 7041 Equipe du « Village à l’Etat au Proche et Moyen-Orient »
Instituts des Déserts et des Steppes Ministère des Affaires étrangères et du développement international
DIAG

Liens :
CNRS
Facebook d’Adam
Le Monde
Sciences et Avenir
You Tube

The excavation campaigns (by year)

Adam -2017

Eveha International is participating in the French Archaeological Mission in Central Oman (FAMCO), led by Guillaume Gernez (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne).
