Location and Mission Objectives<\/strong>
The abandoned village of Jazirat Al Hamra<\/strong> is located approximately twenty kilometers southwest of the historic center of Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost of the United Arab Emirates. Originally situated on an island within a lagoon that has since been filled in, this fishing village was founded during the 16th century. Initially a seasonal settlement, it was gradually abandoned in the 1960s.

It may have succeeded the major site of Julfar<\/strong>, located further north, whose date of abandonment coincides roughly with the founding of Jazirat Al Hamra. The village consists of dozens of houses, mosques, and a fort that was originally supplemented by several defensive structures documented in ancient plans.

Research History<\/strong>
For several years, the site has been at the heart of an ambitious rehabilitation and restoration program aimed at its enhancement and preservation. This program is accompanied by archaeological studies designed to better understand its founding date, urban evolution, and the lifestyles of its inhabitants. Several archaeological soundings<\/strong> (test pits) had already been conducted in various sectors of the town prior to the intervention by \u00c9veha International<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
