Between 2018 and 2022, the excavation of the round mound D6 and the space between it and the square monument D4, at the western end of the southwestern necropolis, was the focus of fieldwork. For the first time in the burials of the Silla del Papa, the relatively well-preserved stratigraphy revealed four phases of use of this necropolis.
Since 2022, several campaigns have been dedicated to the study and extraction of material from previous campaigns. In the field of ceramics, Max Luaces has focused on the production of amphorae and ossuary urns, the latter being studied for their paste composition, which often indicates local production. We can also observe an evolution over time: while the mineralogical composition remains similar (large quartz nodules, feldspars, a significant number of hematite nodules), the paste is better worked, with better classified and much finer inclusions, and much better fired (the paste is harder and the clay is generally thinner). Four ossuary urns were also microfouled in the laboratory. The partnership between \u00c9veha International and Prof. Pierre Moret\u2019s team, established in 2024, aims to complete the study and publication of the results obtained during the previous excavations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
