The archaeological study of the Las Herrizas site is still in its preliminary phase. The first stage of the project involves a non-invasive study of the settlement and its immediate surroundings. This includes pedestrian surveys and the three-dimensional recording of semi-rupestrian features, such as beam dwellings, cisterns and stairways, using photogrammetry, a LiDAR scanner, a drone and geophysical surveys.
The mission carried out in June 2025 aimed to build on the initial surveys conducted the previous year. The mission also aimed to identify the main structures associated with ancient occupation, particularly a rock staircase leading to a rock shelter. Another objective was to study the ceramic material discovered during the survey in greater depth.
