How Eveha Participates
Malacology
Location
Sultanate of Oman et United Arab Emirates
The fieldwork campaign held in November 2018 was part of the third year of the ANR OASIWAT project. The Éveha International collaborator, a geoarchaeologist specializing in malacology, contributed to the paleoenvironmental component of the project. Following the December 2017 campaign, the exploration of the Shimal oasis continued. As the initial results from the test pit were promising, a subsoil investigation of the oasis was undertaken. In coordination with the CNRS teams, our collaborator carried out six geoarchaeological soundings along the alluvial fan of the Wadi Haqil and Wadi Bih. Furthermore, these excavations allowed for the search for potential archaeological remains. Indeed, this area experienced early human occupation (anthropization) dating back at least to the Umm an-Nar period (2700–2000 BC) and served as the site for the medieval city of Julfar, which was a major commercial port at the time.
